☯️ urban asanas. the only person i will do yoga with is Jyll, the founder of Urban Asanas. all the classes are virtual and affordable ($10 drop in). Jyll will somehow kick your ass even during a restorative yin class! and tbh, i wouldn't be the teacher i am if it wasn't for Jyll. see you at the sunday soul classes :)
💨 im not much of a pipe person, but its essential to have one for many reasons. my miwak junior pipe not only reminds me of my childhood pet rock (which i miss dearly but have filled that hole), but it hits V smooth. like crazy smooth for a pipe. i really love the construction of the pipe, the colors, and the ethos behind miwak junior.
🥬 DUBPLATE - a small batch test kitchen from Matt FX - an amazing chef and for non dj ppl he did the music for broad city. so far the theme is asian american fusion- i recently had the szechuan fried chicken sandwich and the masala lasagna and it was SO good. i want that sammy again. keep an eye on ig for menus and drops
📚braiding sweetgrass: indigenous wisdom, scientific knowledge, and the teachings of plants. THIS BOOK! Robin Kimmerer's empathetic, thoughtful, and scientific lens is a reminder that humans can and do give back to this planet in ways we don't always think of. (esp if you're like me and think of humans as infesting exploiters.) I really love the honorable harvest teachings: do not take the first because it may be the last, take no more than half, use everything you take, and to share with others <3
🍱 if you like yakitori then keep your eye on TAKUYAKI. a husband and wife duo started this yakitori pop up when their restaurants closed due to covid. you can hire TAKUYAKI for private dinning in an outdoor area or keep an eye on their pop ups (both options are V delicious- shout out to my neighbor for hiring them for her bday and then feeding meeee)
📚 quit like a woman. for you bad bitches doing dry january (or not!) i'll recommend this book again and again and again. if you're sober curious or doing dry january or have a knee jerk reaction to the idea of removing alcohol- join Amani Sampson and myself for a convo Jan 9 at 3pm est via zoom
💆🏻♀️i recently took a cake decorating class with cakes4sport and it was SO much fun. im usually not a fan of cake - but the creations Alli makes are unreal and more along the lines of surreal- the use of fruit and jams- it all feels very beautiful, very wabi sabi, very extra, and very sculptural. and no fondant!! i made an olive oil, lemon, turmeric cake with a miso buttercream, grapefruit jam, kiwis, and edible glitter. duh! i look forward to meditating over cake decorating from now on
