The past month has been a lot of exploration and research for me. Reading and learning about different cannabis organizations- focusing on their methodology, ingredients, and mission. I'm excited to share some notes I took when I interviewed Steve, CEO and Founder of Mana Artisan Botanics.
-Steve is from California (like me!) and has lived in Humboldt and West Africa and specializes in sustainable agriculture design, permaculture, and sustainable energy
-Hawaiian agriculture is tough due to cost of living, price of goods, and the high entry point to land prices
-his farm on the Big Island of Hawaii has been open for 13 years
-cannabis and turmeric made up his og crops- now you can find ginger, passion vine, and macadamia trees on the farm (and in Mana Botanics products)
-the past 8 years he’s been focusing on CBD #earlyadopter Steve’s focus on cannabis/CBD and turmeric was due to the anti-inflammatory characteristics of both plants and the fact that CBD helps regulate the immune system which is great for autoimmune and degenerative diseases. Bonus! Turmeric also primes your endocannabinoid system, allowing your body to receive the CBD <3
-the thing I loved the most about our convo was learning about Mana Artisan Botanics whole system approach. Mana Artisan Botanics supports Hawaiian agriculture every step of the way- he has direct relationships with farmers and local healers, has a team of 5 people who hand-fill every jar, instituted a minimum wage of $19/hr, and pays fair market value to farmers.
-taste is also really important to Steve. A lot of times CBD tincture can have an unpleasant taste (for reals- there are tinctures out there that have made me gag). You can taste Mana Artisan Botanics in my CBD Pilates class on 9/28
Thx Steve for taking the time to chat with me over the phone and I hope to coordinate a farm and wellness center visit in November!
