microdosing psilocybin

this was originally published June 21, 2019

You may have noticed psilocybin has been decriminalized in Oakland and Denver recently. Before jumping to conclusions about magic mushrooms ๐Ÿ„ based on the rhetoric from the 70s and 90s, I highly recommend giving How to Change Your Mind: What New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Conciseness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence by Michael Pollan a read. I can't put it down. And y'all know how I feel about reading books written by white men. I feel like Michael Pollan's work is considerate, empathetic, thoughtful, and pretty inclusive.
I explored psychedelics in high school and college by doing a lot of reading ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“ and ingested a few times. My first introduction to psychedelics was through The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda. s/o to my mamala for introducing me to her anthropology professor! Once I actually ingested psilocybin, I had very enjoyable experiences but didn't have the need/want to continue exploring. In the past few years I've been reading and hearing more and more about microdosing psilocybin's and its impact on depression. (microdosing psilocybin [.1 - .3 mg] is wayyyy less mgs than cannabis mgs [2.5-5mg]). I decided to give microdosing a try and I have been absolutely enjoying it. there's a beautiful, positive glimmer to everything I see, do, touch, feel. I don't know if thats an adequate description, but if you wanna chat about it I'm here!

Anyways. I highly recommend reading Michael Pollan- you'll learn about america's relationship with psychedelics (past and potential future) along with the science + spirituality of psychedelics on humans. Carlos Castaneda documents the use of peyote in Yaqui shamanism and sorcery- I can't recommend reading this book enough- this was a life changing book for me. if you read either book i'd love to hear your thoughts ๐Ÿงก
