migraines without pharmaceuticals

fucking migraines.
i hope none or only a few suffer from migraines cuz they suck. i was lucky enough to get one last night uggg and was able to recover around noon today! I've been gettin migraines for about 15 yrs now- they're related to my menstrual cycle. so fun. i used to take pharmaceutical drugs for my migraines, but they really fucked me up and put me out of commission. i would be so foggy the next day or two. so i stopped taking them.
my personal elixir for headaches and migraines
1️⃣ start with an edible. this helps reduce nausea while relaxing your head/neck/shoulders and helps bring on sleep. I start with 5-10mg thc, after 2-4 hours I'll take another 5mg, if in another 2-3 hrs I'm still feeling sensitive and migrainey, I'll take another 5mg. When I get to 15-20mg of thc I fall asleep and then wake up feeling V refreshed and migraine free! Bonus- edibles decrease nausea
2️⃣ so. much. coconut. water. an imbalance electrolytes can lead to headaches and migraines, so ingesting some will help regulate your potassium, sodium, and calcium. I also find it helps decrease nausea, but that could be because of the edibles
3️⃣ caffeine. I stopped drinking coffee (it was creating a lot of anxiety). but if i have a migraine, i'll make a 1/2 cup of coffee and it does the trick. always be mindful that coffee is acidic, so stronger might make you feel more nauseous.
pro tip: add cinnamon to the coffee grinds -it smells so good and are anti-inflammatory- which is what we want since the blood vessels outside the brain are inflamed
4️⃣ sleep sitting up. literally my worst nightmare, except when i have a migraine. making sure the blood isn't pooling around my head is essential. i stack my pillows so starting from my midback I slope upwards
5️⃣ endorphins. gentle yoga is a great way to make endorphins (i love Yoga with Adrienne.) and masturbate. get your vibrator and get to it, there is no time to waste, feeling better is of the utmost importance!
6️⃣ advil. either i have to get to the advil before my migraine has really set in or wait until the nausea has mostly diminished, I'll take 1 -2 advils. if I take advil while i'm nauseous- it won't be a good look, lets just say that. whenever i take the advil I try to eat something with it so it doesn't make me feel worse
* additional tips: eye pillows, cold compresses, minty cbd salve or tiger balm on the head/neck *
this may seem like a lot, but I sure as hell prefer this thoughtful way of moving through a migraine vs popping a drug that puts me out of commission for a day or so
